Natural Dyeing with Christopher John Rogers
September 29, 2019
christopher john rogers, a good friend and the most talented young designer in the industry, asked me to teach him and his team a little about natural dyeing. chris won the cfda vogue fashion fund 2019 for which he was given a challenge surrounding sustainability. the challenge was sponsored by zara which supplied designers with organic and sustainably fabrics and materials. chris chose a beautiful greige organic cotton linen that we dyed with cochineal, logwood. tumeric, and madder.
in total, we laid out and dyed about 10 yards of fabric in chris’ brooklyn studio. it was a wild experiment to dye so much fabric at once. in the end the fabric that we was cut into a suit and fully embellished with recycled swarovski crystals. the cfda hosted an event at the well for the finalists to present their creations. each designer was paired with a muse, chris was paired with kat graham.
